How the daily board works
Each day has exactly one daily board. It is created from that day’s date, so everyone who plays on the same date gets the same mines in the same places. The date follows your own calendar, so a new board appears at midnight wherever you are.
The daily board starts from a marked square. Click that square first: it is always safe, and its eight neighbours are safe too, so it opens an area for you to work from. After that it plays like any other board here — and like every other board, it has been checked so that it can be finished without guessing.
A different size through the week
The size changes with the day of the week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are Beginner days (9×9, 10 mines), a quick puzzle for a coffee break. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are Intermediate (16×16, 40 mines). Sunday is Expert (30×16, 99 mines), when most people have a little more time.
Because everyone gets the same board, the daily is a fair way to compare with friends: same mines, same starting square, same logic. Nobody gets lucky with an easier layout.
Daily streaks in the app
The website does not store your results. In the Quiet Minesweeper app for iPhone and Android, coming soon, each daily board you clear is marked on a calendar and counted towards your daily streak, and finished daily games can be ranked against other players. There are no ads in the app either.

Is the daily Minesweeper the same for everyone?
Yes. The board is created from the date, so everyone playing on the same calendar date gets the same board and the same starting square.
When does the daily board change?
At midnight in your own time zone, because the date comes from your device’s calendar.
Why do I have to start on the marked square?
So that everyone starts from the same position. The marked square and its neighbours never hold a mine.
Can I replay the daily board if I hit a mine?
Yes, you can try the same board again from the start. It stays the same until the date changes.
